okay so im 14 and i want to peirce my own belly button. i dont want it to be done professional so can anyone give me some tips on peircing my own bely button.
Erronius answered Friday September 22 2006, 9:20 pm: My gut feeling is that you are not wanting it done by a professional, because you are 14 and you want to do it yourself to keep it secret from your parents/family. I could be wrong, but that seems to be the only logical reason for you to want to do it yourself. I can understand your desire here, but as many others have already stated, you of course will be running a risk if you do it yourself.
Its better to have it done by a Professional, its too easy to mess it up yourself. You can do it too shallow and it will rip out easily, or too deap and thats not too good either. I've known 2 women who have had infections on belly peircings, and neither can put in a stud anymore because of scar tissue.
Some people I've known simply heat a needle to disinfect it (which doesnt work most of the time btw), and then numb the skin with ice to deaden the pain. But again, I will NOT recommend this. It might sound like a good idea now, but you might regret it in the years to come. [ Erronius's advice column | Ask Erronius A Question ]
xohotwiremyheart answered Thursday September 21 2006, 4:52 pm: It's always better to get piercings done professionally, but if you insist on doing it yourself, they DO make do-it-yourself kits. I saw one at a beauty supply store, & I heard they work really well. [ xohotwiremyheart's advice column | Ask xohotwiremyheart A Question ]
pinkpong answered Thursday September 21 2006, 3:45 pm: i did it when i was 13, and i regret it.it seemed cool, like the first few weeks i had it, but it never looked like it was professionally done. it never will. you can try all the tricks and tips in the books, but more than likely, the hole will look way different than one that was professionally done. mine got infected- not badly but it hurt for a while, and i have a scar that my boyfriend always makes fun of, because he thinks piercings are stupid. so dont do somethnig now that youll really regret later, and there WILL be a scar. iiloveyou answered Thursday September 21 2006, 11:58 am: You definitely should not even think about peircing your own belly button. It could get infected and that would be so bad that you might have to see a doctor.. I would recommend going to a Piercing Pagoda and a parent's signature. Good luck! :)
littleblufirefly answered Thursday September 21 2006, 11:03 am: Is there a reason you want to pierce your own belly button? I tried that when I was a lot younger and it hurt really bad so I didn't finish the hole, and it bled really bad and scabbed up and now I have a scar, so I recommend you get it done professionally. When I tried to do it I sterilized the needle by burning it, but I suggest you get some rubbing alcohol (or boil it) and sterilize it that way because if you burn it, it could rust which can give you a blood infection. Make sure the needle is one of the bigger ones so it doesn't bend or break off inside you. Sterilize the skin around your belly button with rubbing alcohol and put ice on it to numb it. It's still going to hurt really bad, though. After you stick it through you need to leave it in for a couple of weeks to make sure the hole is healed before you put in the belly button ring (and I'm not sure which size gauge you would need (probably a 14 gauge) because they gauge it when it's done professionally, so you may not be able to find a gauge that fits, so I suggest looking around to find a small enough one to fit. I've heard really bad stories about using safety pins to do your piercing because they aren't the right kind of metal and they can cause it to get infected really badly and they can even deteriorate inside of you. I'm not sure exactly which kind of metal is the best, but a large sewing needle would work better to do the actual piercing, but it would be harder to leave in. You may be able to get a piercing kit online or something to make it easier for you, so just check around. After you stick the belly button ring in you need to get some solution to clean it and you need to clean it often. I've known people who didn't clean theirs like they were supposed to and it got infected and they had green puss around it and it turned black, which is not too attractive and is very unsafe. I hope this helped. Let me know how it goes. <3 Dana [ littleblufirefly's advice column | Ask littleblufirefly A Question ]
sweetcorn answered Thursday September 21 2006, 10:19 am: ok if you want to peirce your own and do not want to get it down professionaly which i would get it done professionaly because you may get an infection there which can be quiet painful. But if you want to get it done urself make sure your neadle is steralised with a match so that there is no germs on it or put it over the gas stove! then dont you use an ice cube the other side???? make sure u have an earing ready to put in and i think you can buy this infectant stuff which is very good i used it for my ears when i was little when i got them pierced its a little blue bottle with a sort of disinfectant but what you could do or i suggest is u use alttle tcp or something to avoid the germs!!!!!i dont think its a good idea though because its your belly after all and you dont want to put the neadle in a dangerous spot.hope i helped love sweetcorn and good luck [ sweetcorn's advice column | Ask sweetcorn A Question ]
