How to know when he wants to kiss you and when to makeout

you see..im not that experiencd with like kissing and making out. i was just wondering..how do you know when a boy just wants to kiss you and when he wants to makeout? because ive only done both two times. and the last time with this guy we were in the movies and he asked to kiss me and then he kid but his mouth was kind of open....so i was like ok? he wants to makeout? so we kinda did for like 10 seconds..i started it then he stopped and was like noo..i just want to kiss is that alright? and then i felt SOO stupid! i was like ohh yeahh haha thats fine sorry. but i dont know when guys like kind of kiss you with their mouth, if they want to makeout or if they want to kiss. because if i wait for them to make a move and their mouth is open ..do i just kiss them and sit there haha? but what if they wanted me to like make the move and neither of us did and we were just like sitting there kissing for like 10 seconds. ahh im so confused and now very worried for next time!
by the way...ive never had a boyfriend and as you can tell i am not that experienced ..kinda embarassing but oh well!

ok, so being a guy this is pretty easy, um...... if he has any attraction to you at all, he always wants to kiss, um... there are no major signs that he realy wants to besides him like, staring at u, in your "private areas"**wink wink**, so if you wanna kiss him, and u know that he likes you, just do it, the only thing would be that he doesnt want his freinds to know and then you kiss infront of them, but.... yea

I guess you could let him lead. Almost like dancing. Most of the time you start with your lips together or maybe slightly open. The only real thing here is to really do it.
