I currently have a dwarf hamster. She is pretty cute, but she is mean as well. Dwarf hamsters particularly, can be mean and it can be for the following reasons: Hamster is either not used to the scent of you or dislikes the scent of your hand, hamster could be just a baby (4 weeks to 3 months) and babies are picky about scents and environment, and the hamster could be scared or nervous around you.

Some ways that helped me was to first feed it through his/her cage by giving them treats or seeds. Then slowly try picking the hamster up. But first make sure there are no fragranced scents on your hand. Hamsters hate it. So wash your hands in just water to get it off if you have any.

Don't disturb it during the day as much as you can since hamsters are nocturnal (sleeps during day and is awake during night) and during the day they can get grumpy. So if you want to pet your hamster or play with it, try the evenings. I know Dwarf hamsters can get even more grumpy when awaken sometimes.

Hope I helped =)

I have had dawarff hamsters for years.
I never had a big one.
If you just got it then yeah at first it seems like they hate you but they dont.
They are just smaller then the reggualr size hamsters. and the world is much bigger so it needs to get used to you. and buy it a ball to let him/her roll ion give her some toys you need to make her feel compterable.
p.s-tip- Allways wash your hands before touching the dawaruff hamster. If she/he smells somthing on your hand she will bite you

Hmm... I'm not sure, but dwarf hampsters might be more "bad tempered" than normal ones. Not sure why that is, but many of the dwarf hampsters I've seen a prone to biting and don't like to be picked up.

Also, your pet is new. So it may not be used to your scent. Once it get's used to you and knows that you're not going to hurt it, but you rather are a source of comfort and treats it should warm up to you. Let it have it's space, though. Don't frighten it by suddenly picking it up. It could take a little while, but I think the hampster will be better once it gets used to it's surroundings.

Good luck! I hope you and your new pet get along well! ^_^
