if he likes a certain sport or player, get him a jersey or a new ball or something,
a video game,
pay for his ticket to the amusment park or a fair or some place,
go to the movies,
buy him a couple of his favorite movies,
i would talk to his friend also.
they know him pretty well, and they'll be able to help you out with what a guy might want for a present.
