Ok, so this is a bit of a messy situation and any advice you can give will be greatly appricated.
Im an 18yr old female - I've been dating my boyfriend on and off for six years - none of my friends like him. They say hes abusive and controlling. At the moment we are "on a break" but i know that we're going to get back together ... i just dont want my friends to find out becasuse i dont want them to worry about me. Even though my realationship isnt always pretty, i love what i have and im not going to lose it again.
So anything you can say that might help me know what to do would be greatly appricated
thanks
Jenna

I think you could do way better and find a guy that doesn't hurt you in any way. And doesn't it ring a bell when ALL of your friends hate him?! If they are true friends which they seem to be then they want whats best for you and they dont want to have to know that your being hit and controlled by your boyfriend. Listen to your friends they know what they're doing. I know you should make decisions for yourself but whenever I dont listen to my friends and just block out what they are saying I always end up wishing I would have just listened and trusted them. I dont know how hes abusing you whether its physical verbal or sexual abuse but any of those 3 are bad and if he treats you like that then hes not worth your time. Who are you going to trust, your friends who you have probably known for a long time and know they are always there for you or a boyfriend that abuses you. He may be a really nice guy but the fact is that no one likes him. When no one likes him its obvious somethings not right.. Well thats all my opinion I hope you make the right decision. Hope I helped. [ adviice_whore's advice column | Ask adviice_whore A Question ]
girlmeetsboy answered Sunday September 3 2006, 12:40 pm: well 1st you shouldn't listen to your friends because your thought is what is most important. but if you don't want to tell them you 2 are going out ia ok i guess but they are going to find out eventually.
if you haven't experienced him being abusive for 6 years then most likely he isn't.
maybe your friends don't want you to go out with him because they are maybe jealous of what you have.
bottom line do what you want to do and not your friends.

The most likely possibility is that your friends are right. You do NOT have to take that from any guy... Remember, losing him is not the end of the world. There are many, many others out there who share his good qualities and not his bad.
If you're 100% sure that he's right for you, then go out of your way to show them what you like about him. Point out his good qualities... Like I said, I don't know that much about the guy, but you can apply that in a lot of way.
