sassysara answered Thursday August 17 2006, 8:23 pm: The first answer is correct on a definition of OCD. As a professional I thought I would add that there are degrees of OCD, there are people who are so caught up in it that it controls their lives and all they do. There are also those who simply need their rooms a certain way, or need to double check that the stove is off or the doors are locked. Having OCD usually implys that until you follow through on the obsession you are "stuck" and cannot move forward with your day, plans or in extremely serious cases life itself.
In order to find out whether or not you have it you will notice intense anxiety and should talk first to your GP and if he/she feels its warrented perhaps a psychiatrist. If you do have it there are some new medications out there that work really well for alot of people.

although this question was alread answered- I felt it necessary to answer cuz I have a friend who used to have OCD
OCD is a disorder where people become obsessed with doing certain acts (like re-taking steps, counting everything, and washing hands continuously)
You might find you have it if you do something over and over and over and over (obsessively)
Hope I helped and here's a website that can give you more information:

For example, they may do certain rituals every day..like touching doors or counting steps and things of that nature because they think if you don't do it..bad things will occur. And if it's not done correctly, they may repeat the process until the feel satisfied with it.
MTV showed a very good true life about people with
OCD, you should check it out if they ever play it again.
Being a perfectionist and obsessed with the way things go....doesn't necessarily mean you have OCD.
If you want to find out if you have it...I would suggest you speak to a psychiatrist.
