The best dietary plan for anyone is exactly what experts have been preaching for years: eating meals that have a good balance between fats, carbohydrates, and proteins. Swimming is GREAT exercise. I would encourage as much pool time as you can get. If the pool is large enough, swimming laps is excellent for using energy and building strength without getting too bulky. The only down side of swimming is that people often don't utilize their lower body as much as they could. While swimming, do try as much as possible to use your legs as much as your arms. It's too bad that you're not interested in walking and jogging, because they are about the best things that the average person can do to use energy. For more pool exercise that's not as boring as swimming laps, there are a great deal of water aerobics you can try. Think about basic aerobic exercises you might do on the floor and try them in the pool. Some exercises need modification to be effective and challenging in the pool, while others will be more difficult to begin with. Another good route for a home workout is Pilates. A good Pilates video would be a worthwhile investment, as would a visit to a local health club to get basic information on how to do Pilates exercises safely.
