My past is really affecting my life in the future.

Question Posted Saturday July 5 2008, 9:24 pm

Hi, My name is Racquel and Im 14. Ever since i was little i would always be made fun of. I never actually heard the rumours of what was going on, but people always seemed to hate me the next day. In grade 3, the girls would always spy on me and make fun of me. In grade 6 i actually had the courage to go to a teacher and tell them what was going on, because in grade 6 the girls were still doing that, spreading rumours and what not, the principal didn't help much. My parents were fighting and they split up so i went to live with my mom, and i switched schools in grade 7. This time is where it hit me that hardest with everyone in my grade at school. Some girl, spread a rumour about me, not sure what it was, but everyone believe it. They also thought i was weird, but i have no idea why anyone would think that, but absolutely no one would talk to me after that. I think it was just because i was misunderstood. I was really shy when i was in grade school so i wouldnt talk much. Now, im in grade 9 and these past experiences have always been bugging me. I want to learn how to just forget about them so i wont be angry or sad about these experiences anymore. Girls from grade 8 til now still bug me, and spread rumours about me. They call me there friend even if they do things like that, and they get mad when i dont hang out with them and i hang out with my boyfriend's friends. I just want to learn how to deal the past and now and not be sad all the time anymore. Do you think you could help me?

Thanks,
Racquel

well first i want to start by saying i know how you feel.
people use to pick on me and when i remember it it brings me down, but now im quite popular, i have an amazing boyfriend, and a good life.
i still think about past experiences, but there not so "in the past" if you know what i mean. and they can still bring you down.
all you need to do is tell urself that it IS in the past. if people wanna talk let them, there word mean nothing. true friends would talk to you about these rumors, if there still making them.
you have a boyfriend, so your obviously likeable :)
your doing the right thing by not hanging out with the people who talk about you, and thats probably what there saying about you "shes pretending to be our friend but she doesnt hang out with us" you know.

you have nothing to be sad about though. it is all in the past, and you have to be in that mind set like "im me, im strong, im likeable"
like boasting to youself.
it makes you feel more confident, thats what i do.

so the next time you feel sad, just remind yourself that. and think about the present and how your life is good now.

i really hope i helped you.

xxxxx

It's okay to be sad and mourn your past, just don't let it define you. You can't forget your past. It's impossible. You can only accept what happened, and let the pain go. This will take time, you can't force it. Being sad isn't unnatural, it's a normal reaction to your situation. The memories will be less painful with time. Don't worry about people talking about you behind your back. If they want you to hang out with them, then they obviously like you. Just focus on how good your life is now, and if you need to cry to heal your past pain, then do it. Being sad isn't always a bad thing.
