I had my cartilege pierced at a store in the mall, and I wouldn't recommend it. I have my lip pierced, and my ears three times, and that was easily the worst pain I've been in. However, that's becasue it was done with a gun. I'd go to an actual piercing tattoo parlor to have it done, the needle doesn't have the force of a gun, resulting in less pain, and it is much more hygenic. Plus they will usually pierce your cartilege with a hoop first, which is generally easier to clean than a stud.
