vocal range

Usually, I have a vocal range from E3(the E below Middle C) to C6 (The C two octaves higher than Middle C). But whenever I'm in chorus, for some reason, I can barely sing the high A. I don't see why. Does anyone have ideas?


And please, only answer this if you know about the subject.

But when I'm at home, I can sing the High C without even thinking about it...It's just at choir. Do they, like, raise the pitch of the A, or something?.

I'm into the whole singing thing & I think I know whats wrong.

Position is one thing; at home you're probably just however you want to be standing/sitting when you sing but in choir, you most likely have to sit/stand a certain way.

Also, there's chest & head voices. In choir, for some reason, you could be singing in chest voice (the voice between speaking & singing that has a lower range, making it hard to hit high notes). You could be singing in a chest voice just because (if it's school choir you're talking about) it's not what you want to sing. At home, you can sing whatever you want, but in choir, you can't. So you might not like it that much & aren't as into it so by giving less effort, you end up singing in chest voice rather than head.

I'm in a local girl choir so I know a lot about all this. If you wantto know any more, let me know.

Hm..are you sitting differently when you are in chorus? It may be that your not letting the pitch come out beacuse your not singing out of your lower belly or in your diaphram caused by not sitting up straight? Do you strain your voice like in classes before you go to chorus? Also, if you have chorus like 1st or 2nd period it might be because it's early in the morning. I can't sing very high in the morning, I'm like hoarse.

I have the same problem. Sometimes it's because i'm not fully focussed on what i'm singing other times its because i'm not warmed up all the way. Try warming up before you sing. Try this(on a scale, no breaths)

evry time you finish this on thing go up a key and to it until you feel uncomfortab;e at the pitch

It could be that your voice isnt connected (your head and chest voices are completely different) and it might be hard for you to randomly get up that high. it could be that you are not warmed up enough (choir warmups in a word...suck) so try warming up before and take lessons if you can. <3
