You can wear a tampon. If you're not used to tampons, you can get a smaller sized one designed especially for first time users or beginners, some say that menstruation stops in the water, but you should probably try 'junior' or 'slender' tampons anyways just to be on the safe side.

Yes, you might get cramps but you should use a tampon instead of a pad. Before you swim, take a pain medicine such as Aleve, or Ibuprofin.
