Question Posted Monday June 12 2006, 11:15 am

I have to write a report on Anorexia for my health class final. The thing is, I don't understand how people go for so long without food? How do they resist temptation? And does being anorexic mean you don't eat AT ALL, or do you still eat, but just a little bit? And what are some "side effects" or problems that may occur from being anorexic. ( I've already looked at ALOT of sites I've googled, but they just all say not to go anorexic, I need more info then that!) Thanks so much guys!

hey

annarexia is a serious ilness and mainly afeects teenage girls. side affects: athritis and other bone disorders it can even cause death so its not a good road to go down!
However people mainly do it because it makes them feel in control (in a way its like self harm or cutting your wrists) it can become addictive too. it is there way of dealing with life if the control what they eat they feel they can control everything in their life!

there are many ways that the resist the temptation of food but mainly they are just driven by their desire to be in control. they force themselfv to be sick if they do eat 'too much'

Others are annarexic because of the media and the steriotypical thin image in magazines, and stick figure super models.

nearly all anorexia sufferers do not see anythig wrong with them and the often can starve themselfs to death is thier disorder is not picked up. to them they are never thin enough and it is extreamly dangerous!

xx good luck xx

Alot of girls (and some guys) go for food without days because they think that they are not fit like everyone else & believe that by fasting they can look like 'supermodels', popular girls, & anyone else beautiful & classified as perfectly thin. As I said before, when they fast they don't eat at all for a specific period of time (depends on how long they are willing to go to be thin). Some fast for a while, but then eat small things such as fruit, but nothing with too many calories. Some side effects are depression, a drastic weight loss, anemia (from loss of iron), & heatstrokes from fasting too long. They resist temptation by putting themselves in situations where there is no food (going to the mall, but avoiding the food court), & by chatting with other anorexic friends.

Anorexia nervosa is a disease that affects alot of young women and even some men. They feel as if they are fat even though most of the time they aren't. It's a chemical imbalance in the brain that tells them they are fat everytime they look in a mirror. They resist temptation because they are afraid of gaining any weight. Some anorexic people eat only VERY little, if they didn't eat at all, they would die in a little over 2 weeks - and sometimes that's the case. Side effects from being anorexic are - mood swings, hair loss, skin discoloration, infertility, dry skin, bone loss, and depression.

Someone said that when you're anorexic you eat a little and then throw it up. Thats not really anorexia, thats bulimia. When you're anorexic, you still eat but don't eat much. People have to eat or they'll die, lol. Anorexic is extremely dangerous because people don't eat very much which is close to eating nothing.

How do they go so long without food? How do they resist temptation? Well even though they might be extremely skinny and bony already, they still think they're fat. From their eyes, they see a "fat body". They want to reach their "goal weight" and not eating + exercising will help them achieve that. Its worth it to them, I guess. And sometimes I guess they'll purge if they gave in.

Some things anorexics do are, count calories and set how many calories they can have a day. They start out with an amount one week and knock off like 100 calories the next week and it gets smaller and smaller. I've seen them set their goal for 300 calories a day which is not much @ all. Its scary in fact. And if they eat more, they'll try to exercise it off.

A lot of people don't eat and skip meals. But a lot of people do this because they don't have time and are too busy or they may be a picky eater. Anorexia is all in your mind. Why are you not eating? Because they feel fat or overweight. Theres also other reasons people become anorexic. Maybe other issues they deal with and don't have control over. Them choosing what, when and how much to eat gives them a sense of control.

I don't like the shape of my body, I feel fat. I've gone awhile without eating, I've counted and set calorie goals for my days. But I also binge a lot too because of stress. I'm very unhappy with my eating habits and my weight. I believe that I think I'm bigger than I really am according to others. However I don't think I have the title of being anorexic. I've came in contact with quite a few of them before and have watched videos in psychology about eating disorders.

Anorexia doesn't mean throwing up your food, that's belemia. Anorexia, as well as belemia, is a mental disorder so most of the time anorexics don't become that way by choice, it's all in their head. If someone skips meals and says they aren't hungry, they exercise all the time, and become anti-socail or paranoid then they could be anorexic. Some anorexics may eat a tiny bit but it will always be something healthy, like lettuce. Anorexics obsess over food and exercise and will count calories. All that is on their mind is losing weight so they really don't notice hunger pains. Some problems that can occur are kidney failure, heart problems, and eventually death. Most anorexics really don't want to not eat, it's just something in their mind that tells them if they eat they will become overweight and not accepted. Being anorexic is eating a little bit and maybe thrrowing it up. I'm not an expert, but my friend was anorexic for a while. That's all I know though, sorry. Good luck.
