I don't get it...

Question Posted Friday June 2 2006, 7:41 pm

Why do lambs have tails but sheep don't? I saw a lamb it had a tail, but it's mom didn't. What's the deal.

Lambs have their tails cropped when they are small. For some archaic reason it was found to be better for them not to have a tail. If that were so then they would not have been born with them. I think it is cruel and do not agree with the cropping of any tail on an animal. I hope that answers your question.

haha yep i agree with the first person. i asked my mom, and she said some ranchers use rubber bands to crop the tails. they are actually born with tails though :)

Haha! ^_^ Sheep ranchers often cut the tails of sheep short. This is because the feces of the sheep get easily caught on the tail and cause health problems. They don't do it immediately after birth, so I wouldn't be surprised if the ewe had no tail and the lamb had one.
