canal street nyc
hey everyone! i need some advice. =] for my first time ever i am going to new york city. and i want to go to canal street. i heard it has tons of imitation tiffany and co. coach, etc. & i needed advice on if its dangerous to go to this street and if there are any certain stores that have like the best chanel purses or sunglasses? and how can i get the real stuff on that street? thanks I RATE 555555555's!!! xoxo

I went to Canal Street last week! I came home with tons of stuff, so if you're interested in designer sunglasses and purses, you will absolutely LOVE Canal Street and trust me, you won't wanna leave.
It can be very dangerous. The people who hang out around there are kinda scary. When I went, everyone was Chinese and talking in a different language so I was kinda scared, haha. And a lot of the people are scary looking with tons of tattoos, they all smoke, and the people arn't the "nicest" people around either. But think about it... Any place in the whole entire world you go to, is dangerous. Even schools are dangerous with alchohal and drugs! But just stay close to your guardian or whoever you're going with, and don't talk to anyone you don't know and deffinitely DON'T start fights, and you will be fine.
I went in every store in Canal Street, and everyone claims that they sell the "real" stuff, but trust me, every bag you see is going to be a knock-off. They might look real and the person selling it will swear that it's an "official" designer bag, but they're all fake. If you want the real stuff, you have to go to the official store like the Coach store.
The prices are really good, and you can try to get the prices lower and bargain for a cheaper price, and sometimes if their desperate enough, they will give you the item for $10 less then what they started with. Even though they're knock-offs, they're still a really good price and they make great gifts!! I got a fake chanel back there for $20!! All my friends ask me if it's real because they make them look so real.
If it's a good price, just buy the bag because not many people can tell that it's fake unless it's really junky, and you wouldn't buy a junky purse in the first place.
The sunglasses are really junky. Well, atleast where I bought mine. Watch out for the sunglasses. If you're going to buy a pair, try them on and feel them to make sure they are sturdy and stuff, because mine broke before I even left Canal Street.

ok well i live in NYC, and it is awesome, so i hope you have fun.
any place in the WORLD can be dangerous, some just more than others. There are a lot more dangerous streets in NYC than canal street.
Yes, there are a lot of immitation things sold, but thats only at street vendors. If you want the real thing, then DONT buy from them, no matter how real they say they are. I am 99.99% sure they are all fake. If you want real designer things, go into the stores. If you want Chanel, then go into Chanel stores. There are TONS of them in NYC. Go to chanel.com and store locator for locations.
Definitly the place to go for designer items is 5th avenue. That's probably the most well-known place in NYC for designers. Everything is there. Id advise you to go in Saks Fifth Avenue for amazing stuff.
There are also other things in NYC for shopping, like Armani Exchange, for instance. Ive been in there but sorry Im not exactly sure where it's located.
I hope you have fun! Oh and if you can, definitly see a broadway show. Mamma Mia is the best, in my opinion, followed by Phantom of the Opera.
