Alrighty. My hair is really thick, too. I used to get perms, but now the curl has about grew out. However, I can still scrunch my hair and make it wavy. Heres the way I do it...

Wash your hair and use a little conditioner. Towel off all the excess water out of your hair. Use some curling gel (aussie or pantene are both really good) and spread it evenly throughout your hair. Then scrunch your hair with your fingers. You should also lean your head over and scrunch all the underside hair. After you have spread the gel and scrunched, blow dry your hair on low, and keep scrunching while you blow it dry. After you blow it almost completely dry, spray it with hairspray.

I hope this helped. Let me know!
