It is a competition car. We use 20L fuel cell, in line Bosch fuel pump and Sard fuel pressure regulator. Starting the car in cold and warm is fine. Idle is stable but when accelarating the fuel pressure flactuates downwards causing the engine going lean. I changed the pump, the fuel pressure regulator, the pump relay, the fuel filter, I checked for voltage drop, i checked for fuel tank saction, i checked the injectors, I checked for pump overheating. All these are ok but the problem still exists. Any ideas?
karenR answered Wednesday May 17 2006, 7:20 pm: First...Is the fuel cell vented properly?
Second...Do the fuel tank outlets that feed the fuel pump point to the rear?
Under acceleration fuel goes to the back of the tank and if the outlet is on the front of the tank it will become uncovered and not feed the pump.
Also if your fuel lines are to small for the engines capacity it will go lean.
Is your fuel pump a high enough capacity for a high performance motor? Modified engines require much more fuel (volume not pressure).
Hope that gives you some ideas to check out. If this just makes more questions for you or you need more help feel free to ask for more info.
Will also be curious to find what the problem was. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]
