forgotten to take contraceptive pill

hi' im a 31 year old mum of 2,i have been on the pill for about 8 years and 12 days ago i missed 3 yellow pills in a row, i have been spot bleeding on and off now for a week, is this bleeding normal? and how long will this bleeding last for? im feeling a little worried, i cant get a doctors appointment until next week, so any help would be great.

thanks for the advice, just have another little question my real period is due on tuesday, the chemist told me to skip the red pills and start the new packet with the brown pills, would it be ok to do that? do you think i will still get my period on tuesday or will not taking the red ones stuff things up?.

Hi,
This would be expected as the hormone level decreased. If you don't get a normal period at the end of your pill cycle, then you may want to take a pregnancy test before starting the next packet. The spotting could last off and on until you have built up the hormone level again. Usually about a week after your period.
