Student Council

Question Posted Tuesday May 9 2006, 8:57 pm

I'm running for the Sophomore Class President (2006-2007) and I was wondering what kind of jobs are entitled to the president.

Also, I'm writing a speech (we don't really have to do one in front of the student body, it is just placed in a piece of paper with your picture on the voting packets) and I was wondering if anyone could help me. It MUST be 200 words or less --

As the Sophomore Class President, I promise to be an effective leader to my peers. I also promise to make our voices heard. Through myself, everyone of you can be represented. As an open person, I am 110% willing to listen to your problems or help you out; that means you can talk to me about anything. Whether it be comments, ideas, or suggestions, I will definitely consider bringing your new ideas to the council. All of your ideas and opinions matter, and I’ll be sure to make them out. You can depend on me to finish everything I start! I’m committed to hard work and dedication. I put my heart into everything I do; student council will be no exception. This means that I will put my best effort into making the class of 2009 rock!

I want to write more about being a leader, since leadership is a prime goal in presidency. The only problem is that I can't talk about new ideas and new projects, because in our school, as you have might noticed, student council is very limited. Which means no big elections, and not really being able to change things around. I want to focus more on myself and how I can be a good leader, but I can't find a way to encrypt that into my speech. I don't want it to be fit for a representative; i want it to be fit for a President. Any help?

Umm i'm not sure exactly what you can do to make your speech better and involve leadership. I'm running for Junior class vice president so i guess thats close enough. Here's my speech if you want to use some of it...

For those of you that don’t know me, my name is _______ and I am running for vice president of our class. I would like to be elected because I feel that I can really make an impact next year. Those that know me know that I am a hard-working person and I will try my hardest to succeed. I believe in getting the job done and getting it done well. I’m a very team-oriented person and I enjoy working for the good of the whole. I’m a very approachable person and I’m always happy to listen to you and your ideas. Remember guys, this is our class and we all need to try to raise money for a good prom together. I can’t wait to get to work on our goals and fundraisers as early as possible. There’s no doubt that a lot needs to be done. Let’s get to work. I’m ________ and I want to be your class vice president.

You probably also want to say something about how you're willing to make sacrifices and how you're responsible, trustworthy, dependable and other things like that. Hope I helped a little and gave you at least a little of what you're looking for. Good Luck! HM911
