that is exactly what happened to me on my computer that was in really good condition, i only had it for about 2 years. i went to get it fixed and was told that something went wrong with the motherboard (sorry, i dont know a lot about computer parts) and it was unfixable. I had to get a whole new computer.
hope i helped.

What you should do is get all the files off of your computer that you want to keep (put them on floppy disks or something). Then go to the control panel and click on "add or remove programs". Write down everything on that list that you use. Then, look up online how to reformat your computer. Print out the directions and reformat it. Reformatting is basically erasing the whole thing and starting completely over. It's a pain in the butt and takes awhile, but it will solve pretty much any problem that your computer may have. After reformatting it, reinstall all your programs. The first thing you should install is a virus scanner. It's a good idea to run a virus scan on your files even before putting them back on your computer. So do it before you reformat, or on a different computer before you put them back on yours. The second thing you should do is go to windows update and download all the critical updates since all the ones you've ever downloaded are now gone. I've had to reformat my computer a few times and it's pretty easy. The first time, I called Dell customer support and they told me exactly what to do. The instructions on the internet are very good, but if it makes you feel safer to call, go ahead and do that. If, after reformatting, your computer is still acting up, you'll probably have to get it checked out by a professional. Good luck!

Yeah a recovery disk could work...but perhaps it's just something in your settings. Maybe the computer is set to turn off every half hour. If not, it's cheap to get whatever company made your computer send a recovery disk to you.

That happened to mine once but it would only stay on for like 5 minutes. I ended up having to put the recovery disk in and reboot the whole thing. If you dont have oe you can call the computer company and they will send you one but it will cost...mine was about 20$ but it was worth it.
