Getting dad to change his mind about online shoe shopping

Question Posted Saturday April 8 2006, 6:17 pm

Hi, I've seen your advice around and I noticed that it's very helpful. So, I was wondering if you'd help me.
I want to buy these shoes from www.zappos.com, and I'm sure it's safe, because I read the Safe Shopping Guarantee. I read the Customer Reviews, and everyone raves about how the service was reliable, and trustworthy. It came on time, and they had no problems with their credit cards. I asked my dad if it was alright that he get them for me If I paid, and he went downright, "No." He doesn't want to give away his credit card number because he might have fradulent charges and other things like that. But I'm convinced everything is good, please take a look at the website, reviews, and Help/FAQ. I printed out this:
Is it safe to use my credit card?

Yes, shopping at Zappos.com is safe. Every credit card purchase on Zappos.com is covered by our Zappos.com Safe Shopping Guarantee. See Guarantee details below.

Why is Zappos.com so safe?

Safe Technology: Our secure socket layer (SSL) software is the industry standard and among the best software available today for secure commerce transactions. It encrypts your credit card number so that it cannot be read as the information travels over the Internet.
Guarantee Details:

Under the Fair Credit Billing Act, your bank cannot hold you liable for more than $50.00 of fraudulent charges. If your bank does hold you liable for any of this $50.00, Zappos.com will cover the entire liability for you, up to the full $50.00. Zappos.com will only cover this liability if the unauthorized use of your credit card resulted through no fault of your own from purchases made at Zappos.com while using the secure server.

In the event of unauthorized use of your credit card, you must notify your credit card provider in accordance with its reporting rules and procedures.
Privacy Policy:

Zappos.com respects your privacy and is committed to protecting it. For more detail, please see our Privacy Policy.
He overlooked it and just plain out went, "No." I really, really want these shoes! I can't find them anywhere, that's why I resorted to buying online. Is there any way to change his mind? Please? Sorry about the topic, I didn't know where to put it under. THANKS.

I had hoped they would take a money order but they don't. Darn it, that would have been perfect!

The only thing I can think of that may make your dad allow it is.. that giving your credit card information to a stranger at a retail store is probably just as dangerous as purchasing something online.

I'm a big chicken when it comes to using credit cards myself, so I can understand what hes worried about. It really is no worse than using it anywhere else though.

Have you tried any other places online that may take a money order? If I knew the ones you were looking at I would help you look. If you punch in the name of the shoe and the maker of the shoe, something may come up for you.

Hope that helps a little. If hes as hard headed as most dads are though, it may not help a lot.

Good luck. :)
