I would like to know what my tiger barbs were doing.

Question Posted Friday April 7 2006, 4:17 pm

I have 5 tiger barbs and 2 xray tetra's all in a ten gallon tank. I know i have to many for that small of tank. But there is no problem they are all buddies, that's not what I wanna know though. Last night when I was watching them.....from a distance, the two biggest ones had there top fins up all the way and at the end was super orange. All the other fish backed up and was at the back of the tank watching the two. The two tiger barbs then put there lips together, several times for a second or two. then they would put there lips together and spin like a top both of them. I don't know if they were hurting each other or breeding, playing, or what? So could you please tell me what they were doing? Thanks so much, Samantha.

My guess is that they were just playing. If they were hurting each other or fighting, their fins would be torn. What I do know is that you don't have too many fish for your tank. I think the ratio is one fish per gallon. So you can have up to ten or probably even twelve fish and it would still be fine for your tank. I hope I helped.
