Okay, I think I should mention I have Selective Mutism. If you don't know what it is, it is an inability to speak in certain social situations. So I pretty much don't talk to anyone but people in my family since I'm extremely shy. :\
I like this guy, but I don't think he'd ever like me. He calls me his mute pet/chick.
And he also probably thinks of me as a little girl, since he is one year older. (I am 15 and he is 16.)
I don't know what to do to make him think otherwise. I mean, he's a good friend and I don't want him to think I'm retarded.
We've become closer in the past days though, so that's some progress right?

It's pretty common for guys your age to go out with younger girls because girls mature earlier - I'm sure you've noticed this!
You say he's a friend, and a close one - he obviously doesn't have an issue with your mutism and certainly won't think you're 'retarded'. You're clearly articulate, and if texting/email is your main way of communicating with him then he'll know that.
It sounds to me like he is protective of you - this can lead to a really strong bond, and you say you have 'become closer'. I wouldn't be surprised if that protectiveness comes from or leads to deeper feelings for you - but only he can tell you that! You might find it hard to ask him, but it's the only way.
