Phone-o-phobia?

Question Posted Tuesday April 4 2006, 5:44 pm

Alright, I think this may have recently been asked, and I'm sorry if it was, but I need help.
I have the hardest time calling people, I only call people if it's an absolute emergency. Like, I can't even call my boyfriend, or best friend.
I hate it, I always want to call them, but I just can't do it. I don't know why. It's actually really affecting my relationship with my boyfriend, he's threatened to break up because I have probably only called him 2 times since I've know him (which is about a year or so). Can anyone help me get over this?

You might not like talking on the phone because you think somebody is listening. Even though you may not think that. Privacy is very important to people, and felling like its being invaded might be keep you from talking on the phone. Just remember that no one is listening.

I hate that phone too.
Just tell them it is against your religion or something (I did). And find other means of communication.
what happened to real life encounters? that is still an option as far as I know.

This is what I told the last person to ask about this:
"I have this problem too, I get performance anxiety kind of, plus paranoid that they might screen my call, not be home (then you have to perform for the answering machine), be busy or just not want to be bothered. Try setting a time for yourself, (I call new girlfriends at 9 on the dot) and if you have a push button phone (not cell) then turn it on before you dial the numbers so you don't have to decide whether or not to press 'call' (or on, whatever)"

Try alternate means of communication, like text messaging or instant messengers. Then they won't feel ignored, and you'll avoid the phone.

Just try using the phone more often or just have them call you.
