I think that what you need to do is just be honest with yourself, just becuase you have had bad relationships in the past doesnt mean that you have to take a break it just means you need to be more picky when choosing guys (and i mean picky as in choose the "good" guys not "bad" guys). Think about all your guys friends that like you (including the one your best friend likes too) think about their good points and bad points, think about who you do/could have feelings for, and think about whether or not they would treat you the way you deserve to be treated! When you have thought about everyone of them, decide who you would date potentially and tell them if you like them, or want to "try" dating/a date. Now for the best friend thing, just be honest be like well i found out the guy you like likes me, and tell her however you feel about him. Honesty is the best policy with best friends, and if she takes it ok and accepts it then you can go out with him (if you like him) but if she takes it badly i wouldnt suggest thinking about him too much! good luck and just ask if you need anything else!
