how do i download CDs to my comp so i can make playlists using windows player????

Switch is a free set of audio programs that include a good ripping program.

You might also try CDex, which is also free and works well.

Download and install either program, insert a CD into your CD-ROM drive, and run the program. It's all very straightforward.

put a CD in your drive and open windows media player if it isn't already open - go to the rip tab - make sure all the songs you want are selected (they'll have a tick next to them)and go to rip music (in the top right). the songs should then appear in your library
