Just a footnote to younggrandma's awesome research... you might want to give a listen to "Eruption" by Van Halen (it's on their self-titled album). I think you'll find it much like whatever is in Back to the Future. It's a face melter!

I looked for over an hour! Got my curiosity up.
The only thing I could find was under a Trivia site for the movie. It claims that although the tape is labeled Van Halen, they could only get permission to use their music from Eddie.
So, it is not Van Halen music but an untitled original by Eddie Van Halen, originally made for the movie the Wild Bunch.
