AIM

Question Posted Thursday January 5 2006, 8:36 am

Everytime I sign onto AIM, and leave the room for like 20-50 minutes, it signs me off. I know it's not one from my house and my computer doesn't get turned off. How do I stop this and what is causing it? It just started this yesterday.

Uhm, that's odd. Maybe it's a virus? All of the AIM viruses I've experienced have not been this way, but I think it's definitely possible. If this is an actual AIM virus, then here is what you should do: you need a certain AIM virus detector. I have a link you can nuke it with: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

Simply go there, and just click "DOWNLOAD". It's 100% FREE. It downloads in seconds. Another good thing is that it does not download ANY other crap with it. Once it's downloaded, save it to your Desktop [just so it's easy to find], and run the program. It will kick you off AIM [for about 10-14 seconds], while it scans AIM for this virus. Once deleted, you can sign right back on.

If for some reason you notice this problem has not gone away, the virus might be on your machine [and not within AIM itself]. If this should happen, then I suggest running Ad-Aware to filter out any Spyware existing on your computer. If you do not have Ad-Aware, you can download it for free at: [Link](Mouse over link to see full location)

And if all of this doesn't work, then I have no idea. I think then would be the time to uninstall-reinstall.

I don't know anything about aim in particular, but there are some programs that automatically kick you off if it doesn't detect activity for so many minutes.

It sounds as if that may be what is happening. You might check the FAQ for aim, or even write to their technical support to find out for sure. :)
