there is this thing at my school called Beginning Algebra and Geometry and also Pre-algebra. I am in pre al but i have a 98 average and i took this test to see if i could get moved up to BAG, but i didnt. i got half the ?s wrong within 10 ?s and i have been stressing about it because ireally wanted to be in it and i have been trying to prove to my teacher that i need to be in that class, but it is becoming unhealthy i think. i have gotten 3 100s on tests and quizes since then so i probably have a 99 average. can you help me to stop stressing? or at least to deal?

You seem like a perfectionist. And I truly respect the fact that you want to challenge yourself and try a more advanced level. We all want the best for ourselves, even those of us who are slackers. I know that you could probably pass the BAG, and you know you can too. Your teacher doesn't.
But look on the bright side, you're doing so well in the class you are in now. Colleges will love the fact that you are doing great in your class. There is no need to move up, because what do you need to prove? Nothing. I know you feel like you're ready to move up but if the test results weren't as accurate as you'd like them to be it will be very hard to get in. Maybe you just didn't focus enough on it due to stress? If you feel like you can do better now, ask about retaking it. Explain that you know that you're capable of doing better and you want to challenge yourself.
Part of life is accepting whatever is thrown at you. In this case it's not getting into that course. You can use this year for improvement. If you already took the test you probably have a main idea of what the material is. Take your mistakes and learn from them. Honestly, it's what keeps me going today. Know that you tried - and rather than thinking you failed at it, you didn't. You'll gain preparation for the next time. Besides, people don't always get what they want. If you look up celebs profiles you'll notice that there were many times when they wanted to get into something but didn't make it. But now they're a huge success.
Heres what I would do:
- ask your teacher if you can retake the test
- ask for assistence if you need help
- ask if there is any alternative
- ask if you can prepare for a more advanced class for next year. ( the teachers love this)
If not don't stress. Seriously. You did all you could do and I think you should reward yourself for all your accomplishments right now. You'll be okay sweetie! Just hang in there. [ Mandee's advice column | Ask Mandee A Question ]
