i'll have been going out with my boyfriend for two months exactly on christmas. what are types of things that would be appropriate for a gift for this amount of time?

Haha. Well what type of things is your boyfriend interested in? Maybe he likes football & has a favorite team, you could buy him a shirt or a hat or like something along those lines. Or maybe he has a fave band and you can buy him a CD or a shirt. I don't think you should really go overboard on spending a lot for him though, just because it's two months. But it's really up to you. Buy him just clothes, or something like that. I think you should spend anywhere around 20$ but nothing more! (:
