what does it mean to be anemic? my friend used to be and she thinks i am now...i don't eat red meat and i always get these really big bruises, that don't really hurt, but i don't know how i get them? and they don't go away for a week or 2. does anyone know what's going on?
it said"Anemia is a lower than normal number of red blood cells (erythrocytes) in the blood, usually measured by a decrease in the amount of hemoglobin. Hemoglobin is the red pigment in red blood cells that transports oxygen."

The best way to fix it if you wont eat red meat is to either supliment your diet with iron rich foods or to take iron tablets which may work even better. Karen answered Saturday November 19 2005, 6:20 pm: Being anemic is when you don't have enough iron in your blood. Eating an iron-poor diet will eventually lead to iron-deficiency anemia. There are many types of anemia. You should go see a doctor to find out if you are. My friend has to take pills, since she's anemic.
ThugGirl041790 answered Saturday November 19 2005, 3:14 pm: Yes its from not havin enoough iron.. Most people who don`t eat meat are anemic.. My cousin is and she usually gets cold.. Yea this could also cause you to bruise easily from something simple and you might of just ignored it cuz it wasn`t anything big.. I`d see a doctor and find out if you are.. i mean they`ll probably just tell you that you need more protein.. ♥ Dez [ ThugGirl041790's advice column | Ask ThugGirl041790 A Question ]
