Rub a brick over the spot you want the hole. Side to side, not up and down.

First, wash the jeans with fabric softener.
Then use a steak knife (or a knife with a serrated edge) to form vertical slits around the areas where the jeans would be used most (knees, thighs et cetera) Make a few horizontal cuts and take out some of the pieces of the jeans.
For a nice effect, use sandpaper and distress them around the knees and pockets.

Try a razor with a sharp blade and grind it up agaist them. Put something inside unless you want front and back done.

I use a razor, just get a hard surface and put it in your jeans (a dvd box usually works for me) and scrape the razor on whatever area you want done!

Hope it Helps!

Scissors will work best, but you need a better pair. Go to the sewing section in Walmart and get a pair of fabric scissors.
