Question Posted Wednesday October 19 2005, 5:44 pm

there is this guy and he is a grade older than me. we have been friends for a really really long time and i never really thought i liked him until a few weeks ago. my best friend hasnt known him very long, and as soon as i told her that i liked him..she went for him. it really seems like he likes her alot more. i dont really care because i think that we are too good of friends to go out, but do you think she is going for her because of competition or something like that? it always seems like she is trying to compete with me when it comes to guys. and...how should i get over him..whenever he is with me and her i just feel jelous for some reason...even though i dont really like him anymore...is it because im jelous?

sorry this was such a long question.

it sounds to me like your friend likes competition. you're just really good friends with this guy, but i think she told you that you like him and then went after him because she wanted someone to compete with while trying to get him. you should probable just talk to her about it. and your sudden feeling of jealous is probable because before she met him it was mainly you get attention from him and being to talk to him, but now she wants his attention. to me it sounds nothing more than miscommunication.

First off, I think you need to have a long, emotional talk with your friend about "friendship". It doesn't matter whether or not you still like him, you're friend should NEVER go after a guy you have feelings for when she is aware of it. That is totally violating the friendship trust band. That is totally inconsiderate of her and you need to tell her so. Ask her how she'd feel if you started pusuing a guy she liked. I think she is going after him for attention, and to "beat" you at it as you mentioned by competition. Again, I think you need to straighten this out because you deserve friends that respect you. And if it's true about where you say she always seems to do this, then this talk is vital. It should have taken place the first time she did this, but it must happen soon. Otherwise yall are just going to fall apart and it may not be so subtle. About getting over him, you can't really "get over" a guy you're friends with, no matter what anyone tells you. You can't change the way you feel, no one can. That's fact. You ask if you're jealous and I'd say that and angry. You should be both. Angry because she's trying to take your man, and jealous because as you claim, she's doing a good job. Again, talk to her and set things straight and as for the guy, I think it would be best to see him now as no more than a friend cuz you're friend kinda messed up the "further relations". As for forgetting him, try to focus on someone else. The same thing is happening to myself at the moment. Well, good luck. Hope this helps :)
