Question Posted Sunday October 9 2005, 9:58 pm

Hello, this is Saint_Gasoline.

I'd like to apologize for offending you in the moderator's forum. Please know that it wasn't my intent to offend you. I simply wanted to have a discussion with you about whether the occasional off-topic response should be considered acceptable. The fact that both you and I have very viscious, sarcastic arguing styles led to a major misunderstanding. I respect you as a person, and I never intended to insult you personally, but sometimes when I visciously lay into someone's arguments it causes them to become personally offended. If that is what happened, I apologize. But it wasn't my intent to bait you into "fighting me". I honestly thought that I could convince you to be accepting of off-topic humor.

At any rate, why should we hold ill-will towards each other simply because we disagree over something as trivial as "off-topic" responses? I know that, at heart, you are a reasonable person, and I think you and I can both agree (even though we agree about so little!) that if we have personal problems with each other simply because we disagree about this ridiculous thing, then we are both in the wrong and reacting childishly. So we disagree. It doesn't really matter. If you'll notice, I've followed the rules in practice, even if I do argue in a manner that seems to imply that I go around insulting people and answering their questions evasively with off-topic, bad advice. My arguments do not reflect my real actions, I think you'll agree.

Anyway, can we put this behind us?

Hello there,

I don't really know if I want to start any further conversations with you. Every attempt to reach you with logic has failed, and I am afraid this would turn into more of the same.

As for offending me in the moderator forum, apology accepted.

Unfortunately, what you have written here is not much better. I have been viscious, but I guarantee you haven't seen it. I outgrew that some time back, thank God. There was a point that I wouldn't turn loose no matter what. That was about 20 years ago.

As for wanting to have a discussion WITH ME. That is what my e-mail is for. Had you wanted to have a private conversation, that would have been the protocol for the situation.

The whole thing comes across as an attempt to destroy what little I have accomplished in the last couple (going on three)months. That is all the longer I have been here to try and pull this back from the edge of chaos.

If it wasn't your attention to destroy this site, which is the end result of your proposal, then I apologize for taking it that way.

I think you came late to the party... Practically everything was off topic just a short time ago. There was quite a lot of pointless funny and making light of people's problems.

It didn't work before, and it will not work again.

As I stated, and you ignored, there will be a new version of this site setup specifically for people to do whatever funny, hateful, or mindless things they want.

I am sure it will be a real hit. Seriously.

The code isn't yet near where it needs to be to do that, but when it is I am sure you will have a blast there. I know I will. ;-)

Re: "Personal problems with each other."

I don't have a personal problem with you. I have a personal problem with the extremely destructive, (been there, done that, barely survived) idea you are championing.

Yes, we can put this behind us.

I have one request:

Most of the hate mail I recieve in response to your antics revolves around your compulsion to tell anyone who even entertains the thought that their might be some force greater than themselves, that their beliefs are stupid.

Unless a question is asked directly to your column, I ask that you restrain yourself.

Engendering hate in others who were not so when they arrived, is counter-productive.

I know that you feel the need to evangelize your belief that Christians are stupid. I understand it is a compulsion, with which you may have a great difficulty coming to grips.

For the sake of the site, I suggest you find a way.

Now, in case you haven't noticed, there is a real lack of people on here trying to shove Christ down someone's throat. Ever wonder why that was, considering the fact that I believe wholeheartedly in Christ and his teachings?

Because Christ never tackled anyone and held them on the ground beating them until they confessed an undying love for Him.

Most of the so-called 'church' today is so far from what Christ taught that it would be funny if it wasn't life and death.

In truth, the people in the average American 'church' are farther from the God they pay lip-service to than the people who have no concept of Christ.

What you are hating about people like that, I hate also. God hates it doubly so.

In short:

Badgering and belittling people who have already been decieved by a group of beliefs that have nothing to do with the Bible they hold claim to, doesn't help them, and it doesn't strenghten your position.

You want to turn someone away from "attacking people for Jesus" send them over here:

Christianity today is a hypocritical joke. It wasn't always so. That file will stop any decieved pseudo-Christian from badgering people in a hateful manner.

If you want to know how that bit of wonderment happens, listen to the file. The guy is a riot.

We don't allow well meaning people to jam unwanted religious views down anyone's throat.

There is no reason that a proselyte of the voidist persuasion should receive preferential treatment.

Translation: You don't have to have anyone jam their beliefs down your throat, because I remove those posts.

Nobody should have your beliefs shoved down their throat either.

The real hateful stuff that comes from you, always seems to be in that vein. It can't continue. Since 'mat rakers' left, you are number one in my complaint box. I have barely enough time to get everything done without having to handle those complaints.

If you can deal with that, I don't see why we cannot finish all this on a high note.

You still have a lot of years ahead of you. In 10 years, I don't think you would recognize yourself in what you have written here.

I had that experience from the days of Commodore BBSs Found some archive containing posts from when I was 15-17, and was left slack-jawed about what that know-it-all prick was on about.

Your day will come. ;-)
