Computer geniuses?

Question Posted Wednesday October 5 2005, 5:59 pm

Whenever I try to upload a picture onto photobucket or freewebs or anything, my browser freezes up and an 'error' popup comes up.

I thought it must have been something to do with the internet but I actually opened up My Documents on the desktop and opened up My Pictures from there .. and THAT freezed up. So it's definitely something wrong with my computer, internally.

I run spybot search&destroy AND adaware but that never comes up with more than a few things and it never helps my computer.

Does anyone know what I can do to fix this? Not being able to get into My Documents is REALLY inconvenient. Is there some kind of program I can get to fix it .. ?

Thanks in advance. :)

Additional info, added Wednesday October 5 2005, 7:00 pm:
It actually freezes up WHILE I'm looking for a picture to upload - I never get a chance to actually click the picture I want uploaded because my browser freezes up.

And it can't be a problem with photobucket because the window freezes up while I'm scrolling through My Pictures from the desktop.

Number 1... Stop using Internet Explorer.
Go to www.mozilla.org and download Firefox
It's free and it's waaaay better than IE.

Go to www.grisoft.com and download AVG Anti-Virus
for free.

Go to www.safer-networking.org/en/download and download spybot search & destroy

OR

Go to Microsoft.com and click on the link for their
anti-spyware.

That should take care of 90% of your problems.

Just try to avoid using Microsoft software on top
of Microsoft Operating Systems and you'll run into
far fewer problems. :)

Do you have an excess of files/programs on your computer?

That happened to me a little while back and it was because the computer was clogged so full of huge files, and once I deleted stuff I didn't need and freed up some disk space it was a lot better.

I hope thats somewhere along the lines of what you're looking for, sorry if it isn't.

I've never had that exact problem, but I know that when I had viruses a few years ago, I was getting A LOT of error messages. If you don't have anti-virus software, then you need to get it. I use McAfee VirusScan, and it works wonderfully, but you should check out some different anti-virus protection and see what you think would work best for you. And FYI: Don't try to look up free anti-virus software. I did that when I knew I had viruses, and I downloaded a free trial of something called Stop Sign or Stop Scan..and it scanned my computer but didn't actually remove anything (you had to buy the product for it to do that.) So while free stuff is nice, you do get what you pay for. And anti-virus protection is REALLY important.

It could also be a memory problem. If you don't delete your temporary internet files and cookies regularly, you should probably start doing that. If you're using internet explorer, go to Tools and then Internet Options. In the section called "Temporary Internet Files", click "Delete Cookies" and then click OK when it asks if you want to delete them. Next, click "Delete Files". A prompt will come up, asking you if you want to delete them. Check the box that says "Delete all offline content", and then click OK. It might take awhile to delete everything, so be patient. And don't worry about deleting things, it's only stuff that you don't need.

Remember that the most important thing that you need to do is get some decent anti-virus software. Kudos to you for running Ad-Aware. It's a great program. Keep that up. :) Good luck with your computer problems. And I'm sorry my reply was so long..I hope it was somewhat helpful.
