* On top of this, it’s important to do 30 minutes of moderate activity at least five days a week. Try anything from walking, cleaning or gardening.
* Don’t do resistance training on consecutive days. You should only be doing it before or after your aerobic exercise or on the days in-between.
* You also need to work on specific muscle groups with toning exercises. More about these in coming issues.
* Jot down your progress. It’s a great way to see how well you’re doing and a good motivational boost if you’re having a bad day.
* Don’t forget to do your stretches and to drink plenty of water before, during and after exercise to prevent dehydration. Remember that hydration increases fat burning.
Warm up
Warming up and stretching prepares your body physically and helps to prevent injury.
* Walk or jog until you feel warm to increase elasticity in ligaments, tendons and muscles.
* Next, stretch the major muscle groups. Focus on those in your bottom, stomach, arms, lower back, chest, calves and thighs.
* Don’t hold your breath as you stretch, try to breathe normally!
Cool down Ten minutes before you plan to stop exercising, slow the pace of your routine until your body has reached a pre-exercise state. And, just before you stop, stretch each major muscle group again to warm down properly.
