Topics? For my English class, I'm supposed to select three current issues, and talk about each one. It's a research essay, where I'm going to need a quote for each issue as well.
The problem is...I'm not into current issues at all. I don't read the news, and I'm not properly educated. The examples she gave us were: racism, poverty, the war in Iraq, domestic or foreign terrorism, international relations, obesity, global warming, the national debt, ect). All of these political things, I would NOT be able to talk about. I know nothing about them. So I'm thinking of picking easier topics, such as racism...and maybe 2 others. I can think of Same-sex marriage and Abortion to write about, but I don't want to do either of those. Does any one have any other ideas on easy current issues that an uneducated person like me could write about? It doesn't have to be 'school appropriate' because I am out of high school and in college. I just have no idea what issues are going on in America, except for of course the war, but I don't want to write about that. Thank you very much for any suggestions.

I don't know, this probably never dawned on you, but have you ever thought that if you did a research essay on a topic you didn't know much about, that you would learn a lot more than something easier? Theoretically, you would get a lot more out of that essay.
I would say that you should write about something you know very little about. Then you wouldn't need to call yourself an uneducated person when it comes to that. ]
i think racisim will be a really good one, what about teen pregnancy, illiteracy, crime statistics, the recent hurricanes, the recent michael jackson case, verdict, maybe just watch the news a couple of nights and youd be suprised that you might actually find it is very interesting, and youll probley find your answer in minutes. ]
If you don't want to pick any of the ones you can think of i think your teacher gave you some good examples. I would say pick one of the ones you know something about and then go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) and read about some current issues ]
I just did a research paper for English on the Death Penalty (Captital Punishment). Its a great topic because while I was personally against it, there are so many facts/ studies done on it both ways and its quite easy to take a stand about it.
Gun Control is a good topic too, watch the movie Bowling for Columbine.
Legalization of Marijuana is good too, theres a lot of controversy surrounding it now, I'm sure you'd be able to find out a lot of facts for and against it.
The war...I don't know what your stance on it is, but I'm personally against it and would say that its primary purpose isn't for liberation of the Iraquis, its just for maintaining an oil source for the United sates. ]
maybe write about katrina, and the impact of it. You dont need to be interested in it to start reading about it. If you just pick an article and read it, it may start seeming interesting to you. I have to do articles also, but just for science class. Its interesting if you find the right article. ;&hearts ]
well the hurricanes are a big issue since gas prices are going up and lots of people are homeless because of it ]
I would probabley go with Hurricane Rita/Katrina. There are so many sites with info on them it would be hard to not know alot about it. For the last one, I would make a list of all the things you know is happening in the world, forgetting about the essay. Pick the one you know the most about, or go reaserch one that you like! There are tons of sites with current issues on them. If this doesn't help, let me know, I love to write and I am somewhat into politics and current issues, so i'd be glad to help.
