For my English class, I'm supposed to select three current issues, and talk about each one. It's a research essay, where I'm going to need a quote for each issue as well.
The problem is...I'm not into current issues at all. I don't read the news, and I'm not properly educated. The examples she gave us were: racism, poverty, the war in Iraq, domestic or foreign terrorism, international relations, obesity, global warming, the national debt, ect). All of these political things, I would NOT be able to talk about. I know nothing about them. So I'm thinking of picking easier topics, such as racism...and maybe 2 others. I can think of Same-sex marriage and Abortion to write about, but I don't want to do either of those. Does any one have any other ideas on easy current issues that an uneducated person like me could write about? It doesn't have to be 'school appropriate' because I am out of high school and in college. I just have no idea what issues are going on in America, except for of course the war, but I don't want to write about that. Thank you very much for any suggestions.
I would say that you should write about something you know very little about. Then you wouldn't need to call yourself an uneducated person when it comes to that. [ AGEHA's advice column | Ask AGEHA A Question ]

Gun Control is a good topic too, watch the movie Bowling for Columbine.
Legalization of Marijuana is good too, theres a lot of controversy surrounding it now, I'm sure you'd be able to find out a lot of facts for and against it.
The war...I don't know what your stance on it is, but I'm personally against it and would say that its primary purpose isn't for liberation of the Iraquis, its just for maintaining an oil source for the United sates. [ tangerine's advice column | Ask tangerine A Question ]
soccer_crazii answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 10:12 am: maybe write about katrina, and the impact of it. You dont need to be interested in it to start reading about it. If you just pick an article and read it, it may start seeming interesting to you. I have to do articles also, but just for science class. Its interesting if you find the right article. ;&hearts [ soccer_crazii's advice column | Ask soccer_crazii A Question ]
ankeagle14 answered Tuesday October 4 2005, 9:03 am: I would probabley go with Hurricane Rita/Katrina. There are so many sites with info on them it would be hard to not know alot about it. For the last one, I would make a list of all the things you know is happening in the world, forgetting about the essay. Pick the one you know the most about, or go reaserch one that you like! There are tons of sites with current issues on them. If this doesn't help, let me know, I love to write and I am somewhat into politics and current issues, so i'd be glad to help.
