I'm a republican, and every single one of my friends are democrats. If they insult the president (Even though they know that I'm republican) then it's okay, but if I say any republican views they all look at me like I'm a bad person. What should I do? I'm not the kind of person to just sit back in any type of debate but I can't help but feel like my opinion doesn't matter just because it's not a democratic one.
Additional info, added Sunday September 25 2005, 4:51 pm: EDIT:
I am adding that I am 18 years old, I know what I am talking about with politics because I have been parts of republican clubs in high school and done my research.. They blame the president for EVERYTHING even though congress has more power than the president with alot of stuff. Your opinion does matter. Who cares if they don't agree with you, as long as you argue your point across then what is the problem? [ xxoBriannax's advice column | Ask xxoBriannax A Question ]
curliecue answered Sunday September 25 2005, 12:37 pm: Your opinion does matter! My rule is that in public, you should keep religion and politics out of it... it could easily start a fight when people hold strongly to their beliefs. My suggestion: when politics comes up, try to change the subject [ curliecue's advice column | Ask curliecue A Question ]
Silly_Love_Song answered Sunday September 25 2005, 12:09 pm: Hey!
Ok, I can't say that I haven't been there, but I was on the other side. I've been a Democrat all my life, and I don't agree at all with the people who say that you 'shouldn't form views at a young age.' It's good to have opinions, and convictions, and to fight for them, as long as you know what you're talking about. Are you a Republican just because your parents are? Or are you a Republican because you believe in the things that the Republican party stands for?
I promise you that your friends care about your opinions, maybe they're just too stubborn to admit that you may be right on some issues, or maybe they're only Democrats because their parents are. Try something. The next time they're talking about their Democratic views, try challenging them (if you know the reasons behind your own veiws). A good debate is always fun, but don't let it get too personal, you don't want to hurt a friendship.
I hope this helped, if you need anything, feel free to drop a message in my inbox with some more details and I'll try to help as best I can. Good luck!

Belladonna answered Sunday September 25 2005, 9:12 am: I'll be frank with you: having right-wing ideals doesn't sit well with some people because they have the wrong idea about it. This is no excuse for your friends behaviour - I'm just saying they probably associate you being a republican with the stereotype. It's a shame they can't be more open-minded and more respecting of your opinions as you seem to be of theirs. Debating is healthy, but they obviously can't seem to do it maturely. Perhaps discussing politics with them is not a good idea.
A lot of people these days are against Bush just because they think it's cool to bash him. Many teenagers hate him, yet can't give a reason why. Few teenagers can really say they have an understanding of politics and how it all works. =/ If you want to be devious, you could challenge their point of view and see what their reasoning is. poa answered Sunday September 25 2005, 9:02 am: It's good to have political views, but depending on age ~ well, lets just say that most kids aren't very accepting of Republican views. I'm not certain if you are still a child or not ~ but judging by the fact that you seem to have a concrete group of friends that have stubborn political views ~ i'd assume that you are more than likely 18 or under.
Most kids don't do enough research into things to actually know what they are talking about. Most just hear a rough outline of an issue and take a side ~ and if they hear that is the 'democratic' side ~ then they think they are a democrat, and won't agree with republican views.
xoredsoxnation9 answered Sunday September 25 2005, 8:17 am: I think I know what yu mean. But, how old are you? Don't form your political views at an ear;y age, you have to stay open minded. And, your opinions do matter, they probably are just very strong in their convictions, and they are not open minded. Keep in mind, that if you are young, thats what could happen. And to be extrememly stubborn and not open to anything new, is a bad thing. Just think about it.
