if i have a friend ask them then the next time i see them it would be extremely akward

not really, if you have a friend who doesn't really know them, casually bump into them and start a conversation about you, then maybe it wouldn't be so akward. Guys are typically dumb about that kind of thing anyway. But the one thing you have to be careful about is accedentally having the guy fall in love with your friend.Try a friend who's not interested at all in having a relationship.
