Ridiculous Emotional Attachment I really hate my hair because it is too long and unwieldy to deal with (it reaches around thigh length) and my parents refuse to let me get it cut.
My mother was very close to her aunt, who happened to have extra extra long hair. She died recently, and my mom almost cries whenever I ask her to get it cut. I don't want it ultra short, I just want it around the small of my back or a little shorter than that so that I can manage it better. Currently the only two hairstyles I am able to wear are gigantic chignons and braids.
Even if I mention hair to my parents, my dad fiercely defends my mom and says that I can't get my hair cut, ever. Normally I would just go with a friend and get my hair cut, but I'm afraid of how my mom will react. If I don't do something soon, my hair will be waay too long.
What do you suggest I do?

This is a tough one. You could go with friends and go ahead and cut it...but you know you'll be in for it when you get home!
You know...some people get their hair cut and then let the hair be sent to a place that makes wigs for cancer patients. Your local beauty salon could give you info since most participate.
MAYBE mom would let you get it cut if it was for a good cause? Call around to beauty shops and see what you can find out. Then mom will see how serious you are about it.
You have probably already tried the " but its my hair and I'm the one who has to take care of it" route. That is the best I can come up with. Hair cut for you...Hair for someone who needs it. :) ]
