Fitness First Contract

Question Posted Monday September 5 2005, 6:27 am

Stuck in a contract! My partner and myself joined Fitness First in April and she joined us on a 1 year contract. Whilst we started using the club regularily to start with, changes in work schedules have made it hard to fit in the time between work and family. Not only that, my mother recently asked me to pay back in a full a loan she gave me last year. Whilst, we are not broke, we wanted to get out of the contract as we have not used the gym in over a month, nor does it look like we will be able to for some time yet. We have been told by Fitness First that there is no way we can get out of the contract and it most run for a year. I would have thought that there would be a compulsory release clause with a sensible penalty. We have been told that unless we get proof from Cit Advice Bureau that we can not afford to pay, we are stuck. Please advise if there is anything we can do. Many thanks

Gyms have their own policies about pulling out of a membership- your only option really is to take it up with the gym itself.

Before you go crazy and think there's absolutely no time within 24 hours to use a gym- consider this: the busiest people in the world make the time to train. Even if this means getting up or going to sleep a few hours earlier. YOU should take care of YOU before you take care of anything else...this is where the beauty and awe of my personal preference and philosophy- the very early morning works come in. I wake up at 5am everyday to get to the gym by 5:30...I know where you're coming from- between school and life this is my only option; but the difference is that I realize what it means to me and that I can in fact make time to do it if I just rethink my strategy a bit. Play around with different times of day to train and make your meals well in advance so they will last you the week..Tupperware is a beautiful thing.

Take care of what you need to take care of and know that the gym is always there when you need it- it's just up to you and you alone to make it all work for you.
