Birth Control and Period

Question Posted Thursday September 1 2005, 7:44 pm

Okay, i'm 17/f and i recent issued a question of a possible pregnancy. My next question is....i have birth control, i went to planned parenthood abouta month ago, and got some, but the nurse told me that i should wait until the sunday after my period to start. well my period is late and i wondered if i could start the birth control, but with the pills that bring my period first, so maybe i'll be able to see if my period comes, and if not...well i know what that means. I appreciate you all reading this, and i hope i get some help. thank you again.

First of all, if you have a tri-phasic pill (this means different coloured pills for every week of your period), NONE of the pills actually make your period come. You get your period the week you take pills with no hormones; your period comes because you've STOPPED taking hormones, not because you've started any special ones.

It's best to follow your doctor's advice. The pill is most effective when used properly, and that starts with beginning the pill at the proper time. Doing otherwise could mess up your cycle AND make the pill less effective.

Best of luck.

Wait until your period comes. I suggest not taking any pills that bring your period. Let it come naturally. You don't want to rush into taking the birth control too early. It could have some bad side effects. Someone close to me used to work with pregnant teens and give out birth control and explained about how it worked. I think you should go to the doctor if your period is way overdue than normal.
