Question Posted Saturday July 30 2005, 8:05 pm

Hi NCblondie,
Im a 17 year old female.Today is Saturday and Tuesday i am getting together with this guy to go on a date (lunch, and shopping *his idea) I was wondering (its my first date with him and its during the day) should it just be me and him or do you think it is okay to bring along my younger sister and her boyfriend. I am really nervous and any other 1st date tips you give will help alot.
Thanks!

Hi.

I would ask him before showing up with your sister and her boyfriend. If he doesn't mind, I see no reason why you shouldn't take her. It may help avoid that first date awkwardness where you don't have anything to talk about since there will be four of you. It'll also show him you're into family.

When my husband I were dating, my sister often went out with us. He appreciated the fact that I had a strong sense of family. Also since he got along with her, it made our relationship much easier.

It's natural to be nervous on your first date so don't worry. Chances are he's just as nervous about this date as you are, so relax.

I would go for a dressy casual outfit, maybe jeans and a nice blouse. Just go with what you're comfortable in and still look nice. Smile and make plenty of eye contact.

Think of a couple subjects before-hand that you can talk about so you're not at a loss for words. Common interests are always a good place to start.

Relax and enjoy yourself. I'm sure it'll turn out fine. Good luck and congratulations on your first date.
