has anyone read the book Ellen Foster by Kaye Gibbons? if they have, is it good? i have to read it for school and i was wondering how it is!

I read that book in 8th grade. I actually did enjoy that book. I'm not sure about the rest of the people in my class. It's a heavy book though, but not very long. It deals with alcoholic people, abuse, and rap, and death. You will look at what you have in life differently after reading it. At least I did.
Ellen Foster basically has to deal with the fact that her father is an alcoholic and her mother dies. She is left to be with her Grandmother after her mother’s death even though her grandmother can't stand Ellen with every ounce of her body because she couldn't stand her father and Ellen reminds her of him way to much. She is left to raise her self at times in the book.
