American Eagle is not only less expensive, but very trendy and mature. the upperclassman will appreciate your laid back yet trendy style for sure.
Ambercrombie and Fitch is the new look, although the prices are high the fashionble clothes will score you some points.
Whatever you do, remember that limited too, rave, dot, and other discount stores are not stylish... at all. please avoid them at all costs*
good luck hunnie
xoxo

Okay I am a girl and I would love to help. Everybody has different ways to dress---punk, goth, skater, prep, jock, etc. I will give you a few stores that I think wont make you look like a fool in front of the upperclassmen.

If you want to be a...
...Goth, shop at Hot Topic
...punk, either shop at Hot Topic or PacSun
...skater, shop at both PacSun and Journeys for shoes
...prep (my favorite, shop at Abercrombie (fitch), Hollister, or Aeropostale and for shoes i would suggest Phat Pharms
...jock, shop at any sporting stores. But, if i were a guy i wouldnt want to see girls in big baggy sport clothing becqause that is what they should be wearing if anyone.

I hope everything works out. And if you are short on money rigt now or saving for something, try shopping at Kohls or JCPenny's because there clothes aren't too bad, and they are starting to make clothes that look like popular brand name clothing but only for less! Good Luck! <33
