If you're looking for a Fender Jazz bass, then you should be willing to fork over some dough. If you're looking for something like a used Peavey, then it will be cheaper. It also depends on the quality of the amp. If you're looking for a used Marshall or something, it shouldn't be too bad on your pocketbook. Look in the musical instruments section of the classifieds in your local newspaper. You'll find something there if you keep looking. Go to [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) to find tabs. If they don't tell you how to read them, then I'll give you a brief outline: The lines that go across symbolize the strings, and the numbers symbolize what fret you play on. You'll figure it out sooner or later. [ afafsgsgdhdh's advice column | Ask afafsgsgdhdh A Question ]
twistedteen25 answered Thursday June 30 2005, 12:35 am: Bass guitars are in the price ranges of electric guitars but it depends really on the bass. Go to some websites or my second suggestion go to SamAsh.com it's a music store. They could show you lot's of stuff about bass's and everything. They even have classes for certain instruments too. X0C0URT answered Monday June 27 2005, 5:24 pm: I don't know much about guitars, but as far as finding out about how much they cost and everything, check out www.zzsounds.com, www.bassguitars.us, www.all-bass-guitars.com and www.bassguitarsguide.com. If you really want to learn to play, you should look for somewhere to take lessons because I'm sure that would be much more effective that learning online. Hope this helps!
WTF answered Monday June 27 2005, 1:56 pm: for a decent starter bass and amp, around 200 dollars is a good price, maybe a little more or less.
as for tabs, you read it bottom to top
G-----
D-----
A-----
E-----
the E string is closest to you, and G string is closest to the floor. whatever number it is, thats the fret you need to press down on (seperated by metal bars if you didnt know)
odd numbers have dots on them, starting at 3 and going through 9. 12 has 2 dots, and then it starts with odds again.

If you are low on money, I suggest buying an Accoustic Bass (they are generally cheaper and you don't need an amplifier). Otherwise if you want an electric, you will need.
Electric Bass - Prices Vary Considerably. You can probably buy used for around $100.
Bass Amplifier - For just beginning you can probably deal with a $50 practice amplifier, some little 10 or 15 watt thing.
Amplifier Cords - Just a cheap cord to plug your guitar into your amplifier, if you don't get a package deal, you will probably have to buy one. They are usually only about $10-$15. Or im sure theres a lot of people that would probably give you one.
Strap - You may consider buying a strap, although I find it much more comfortable to be sitting down when I play. Straps are usually $10-$20.
I've been playing bass and guitar for years, and i've been giving lessons for about a year now, if you have any further questions (such as your dillema with tablature) feel free to ask me on AIM - Panramos or just to send me a question on here. [ poa's advice column | Ask poa A Question ]
JadedinNowhere answered Monday June 27 2005, 12:19 pm: Bass Guitar for dummies. THE best book for trying to start bass ever. It comes with how to buy basses, how to read cords, and a cd in the back with examples and stuff. Good luck, I play drums by the way and my friend plays bass.. wooo [ JadedinNowhere's advice column | Ask JadedinNowhere A Question ]
