My sisters friend, I'll call her Kaitlyn, is only 12 years old and might have an eating disorder. She doesn't eat anything at all. Shes naturally skinny, but she won't eat anything. She'll put food in her mouth, then go to the bathroom and spit it out. Does that mean she might be anorexic?
Also she has a strange habit. She won't sleep. She stays up all night and then gets up at 5 in the morning, gets dressed, and then sit at the edge of her bed until 7:45. What is up with her???

The reason she wakes up at five in the morning is because her body has changed in so many ways that it cannot find reason to sleep anymore. It is not consuming enough calories to function properly. Make sure even if it's hard that you inform her mom of her abnormal behavior. Maybe you could even try talking to Kaitlyn yourself because you never know what could happen. Have you talked to your sister about this yet? Maybe she would understand and talk to her first. Hope it all works out. [ distinguishable's advice column | Ask distinguishable A Question ]
Courckypooh answered Monday June 20 2005, 5:03 pm: I think something's wrong. I was 12, I know the feeling, but if she thinks shes fat, tell her that she could take up a sport and/or go work out or swim or something. Tell her that if she doesn't sleep, then she'll also die. People who don't sleep die faster than starvation. She also needs to find a psychologist to help her out. You don't want to lose her, do you? She stays up all night to review and think of her day, what she is going to wear, eat, ect. In general, eating disorders occur in adolescents and young adults, although one study reported that 5% of cases occurred in children under 12 years old. You should help her before something bad happens. If she doesnt stop then she might die.

eLiSe answered Sunday June 19 2005, 6:43 pm: Well...it could be anerexia...but is there anything bad going on in her life right now that she would cause her to react like that? I think you should talk to your sister about it and then maybe the two of you could tell "Kaitlyn" that you're worried about her. If she can't sleep, then she is prolly worried about something thats keeping her up all night. Ok well hope I kinda helped w/ this! IM me if you wanna talk about this anymore! Love yah!
