My question: Is it rude to correct someone who uses a word incorrectly if they made the mistake while giving a compliment? I sent my boyfriend an e-mail. I concluded the e-mail with "Your Hot" signed by my name. My boyfriend responded to the e-mail. He concluded his response by italicizing "You're Hot" signed by his name. At first I thought he was emphasizing how he thought that I was the one who was truly hot in the relationship until I realized he was pointing out to me that I had misused the word "Your."

Tell him you thought it was rude and see what his response is. i mean, i use the wrong grammer and spelling all the time, not on purpose or anything but by accident, and yes, it annoys me soo much when people correct me. its like, get over it .. you kno?

I don't think I'd get to bent out of shape about it unless it becomes a big habit. Maybe you could mention that you noticed it and ask him if hes a little anal about that sort of thing! Tell him you're a little leery of sending more email. Kinda joke about it and see if hes serious or just goofing around with you. :) [ karenR's advice column | Ask karenR A Question ]

If you coRRect the eRRoR.. it could upset them, oR piss them off. HoweveR, you'Re tRuly only doing them a favoR... coRRecting theiR mistake in hopes they won't do it again. Honestly, I'm BIG on gRammaR, and I coRRect people all the time... but maybe that's just me?? :] [ Mackenzie's advice column | Ask Mackenzie A Question ]
Sporkster answered Tuesday June 14 2005, 6:11 pm: Well, if you were correcting someone you didn't know, I'd think it was a tad bit odd, maybe rude, but I'm sure he wasn't trying to be rude; he was probably just joking around. I do that all the time to my boyfriend as a little joke (he hates English grammar. I'm a grammar Nazi), and he doesn't mind. If it really bothers you, tell him about it. Just don't let it get to you, ok?
Ask me if you've got any more questions. I'll be glad to help!
