Hmm... obviously laying in bed is not working for you. Okay. It used to be reallyy hard for me to fall asleep, too. I'd lie in bed for HOURS waiting for sleep to come. If you're taking a shower in the morning, it might help to take a shower at night instead. A warm shower makes me sleepy, so it's good for me to take a shower at night so I can go to sleep easily. If you're already taking a shower at night, start taking a shower in the morning. Showers wake some people up more than they make them sleepy. Try listening to some soft music when you're going to sleep. Classical music is really good to listen to at night, but I like to listen to the Bible on CD at night. Classical music is calming, but I listen to the Bible because it is the Word of my Lord and Savior. Some people find it good to listen to nature's sounds at nighttime, too. Most music shops, CD stores, Super Centers, or Nature stores should sell a CD or tape that has nature sounds on it. Other people find it easy to listen to a fountain while sleeping. You can buy a small fountain at Target, Wal-Mart, K-Mart etc. Some people have to drink warm milk to sleep well; others drink water. Personally, this is what I do:
- Write in my God Journal
- Read my Bible
- Shower
- Read a book until I can't keep my eyes open
I almost always go to sleep within ten minutes. If I'm not feeling well, like I'm sick to my stomach or something, I'll sleep in our big easy chair with a movie on and a cup of Sprite. I have very vivid dreams, and sometimes I wake up from them, and when that happens it's hard for me to fall back asleep. I normally would have to read my Bible some more.
If none of those suggestions help you at all, maybe you have a sleep disorder. My grandmother has Sleep Apnea, and though she falls asleep quickly, her body constantly wakes up in order to even breathe. If you're having a lot of trouble sleeping, consider going to the doctor.
