To make things easier to understand, go to this link here, [Link](Mouse over link to see full location) . this is the model of laptop you have correct? looks like to me there IS an extra mouse plug in. Look at the back of your laptop and it should be the same as that in the picture. see the rounded plug, that is on the somewhat left side, and its to the far right of the vent, plug the mouse into there and it should work, if the mouse doesnt work right away, reboot ur computer. if u need more help just ask. ]
Hello there,
It is unlikely that the part itself is broken unless you spilled liquid on it or smashed it with your hand.
If you do need the part, here is a VERY inexpensive source for the replacement:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
... you are still going to have to get someone in a repair shop to change it for you.
Let us assume that the problem is in software for now.
Here is a link to download the synaptics touchpad driver:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
... oh, and it is called a touchpad, not a mouse. You will just confuse technicians of you use the word mouse as they will think you have an external mouse hooked up to your USB port.
Here is a link to the dell support forum for inspiron pointing device problems:
[Link](Mouse over link to see full location)
...from here you should try downloading the driver file from the link provided, then go to start/control panel/add-remove programs and remove the synaptics touchpad driver.
Then run the file you downloaded.
That should do it.
If not, post in the forums.
Also, this may still be under warranty, if so call dell and have them fix you up.
Worst case scenario: It is physically broken and dell will not warranty it.
In this case, order the part from the link above, and find a local technician to install it for you.
Either way, problem solved. :-)

Try contacting a Dell representative - they can probably help you find a solution to your problem (online tech support is usually free) ]
You can buy a mouse that plugs in to your USB port. Your laptop should have one(same place you plug in a printer). ]
i dont knwo of a way to get it to work and i went through the same thing with my computer and u shoudl try to go to the place were u bought your laptop and then tell them what your problem is and then they fixed it! hope it helped! X0X` ]
