My dance is friday and of course I got my period yesterday. I have to wear a dress but I am not so good with tampons. I've used one once but the last time I used one it hurt and I had to take it out and it hurt more. I don't really know how to get over my fear and do it, I mean, I HAVE to for the dance unless I wear a pad, but, you know...yeah. Does anyone have any tips for getting over the fear of tampons?

They have one's specifically made for teenagers too, so check into those. I'm sure you can find them at local grocery stores or whatever, but an applicator is a must if you are having a hard time getting it out. I wouldn't put anything like vaseline or anything like that onto it because it could smear onto the rest and make it hard to absorb. Make sure you read all the directions and at the very least, just breath and relax, tensing up will make it hurt. [ OrionsFire's advice column | Ask OrionsFire A Question ]

If you experience clotting while on your period, tampons can cause toxic shock syndrome. Not to scare you, but to better educate you on the matter. The first time I wore one, I had to take a hot shower before to calm me down and then put it in. You have to get into a comfortable position to stand and then put it in. You have to try not to be so tense, because when you're tense, it makes it harder to put in. Trust me I've been there. So relax, breathe deep and you'll be able to do it. Michele answered Wednesday May 4 2005, 4:54 pm: apply a little vasaline on the tip of the tampon, it will go in easier, and be sure you are using the right size. experiement, start small and work you way up. stop when you are comfortable. The first day of period is usually the heaviest. So maybe by friday, and small tampon will do.
